Coming to Antarctica was an unforgettable journey, and it will stay with me for the rest of my life. When the snowy-white continent came into view, I immediately etched its outline into my memory. The trip helped me a lot with becoming more independent, because I crossed an entire hemisphere on my own! And I’ve been able to visit the remotest place on the planet. I consider myself truly lucky to have gone to such a magical and awesome place at so young an age.

WildBound is a genuine, down-to-earth nature-education organization. Working together with them, what shines through is not just their love of nature, but the professionalism of their conservation efforts and the depth of their understanding of the field of nature education. In our polar programs, we’ve found that, when it comes to polar governance, civil society plays an increasingly important role. WildBound’s polar programs not only help participants better understand their relationship with nature and explore avenues of personal growth, but crucially grow the pool of attention and resources that society devotes to polar conservation.

As part of my science project, I’d visit our ship’s bridge every day. From the radar, I’d learn about the destination and record the temperature, wind speed, weather information, and travel route, noting down the latitude and longitude. I was really impressed by the lookouts aboard the ship. They would work very hard and would use telescopes to monitor whether there was a glacier ahead, or if there were ships sailing nearby. They had eyes like eagles’ eyes.
